The slow march towards completing my first R-12 continued this weekend. San Francisco Randonneurs hosted a double-brevet weekend where riders rode from SF to Cloverdale (and chose either a 200 or 300k option.) Riders gathered afterwards for dinner and drinks at the local Best Western, then everyone rolled out for a 200k back to the city in the morning. Due to time constraints, I only had time for the 200k portion on Sunday and hitched a ride up north with Bryan the day before (thanks for the lift and the great company!)
Highlights of the ride included: riding in cooler weather for a change (after recently roasting on several rides in the Tri-Valley); pedaling as a big group to Guerneville, marveling at the seemingly endless numbers of tri-athletes on Westside Road; making good time to Valley Ford by drafting off of Carl and Deb (and thanks to them and Elaine for helping me when my rear tire flatted from a staple); feeling pretty spent by the time I arrived to Pt. Reyes Station but revived by Cowgirl Cantina’s delicious eats; finishing my first longer ride with some tough climbs since the 600k (my right knee seems to be back on track!) As always, thanks to SFR and its volunteers for running a stellar event, with special props going out to our Cloverdale Vacation Getaway Coordinator Jesse Marsh!
