With the Russian River 300k rapidly approaching in early March, last weekend would be one of the few opportunities left to put in some hard miles. I scanned a map of the Bay Area to see where I hadn’t ridden before — I get bored with pedaling the same routes over and over again pretty quickly — and spotted Mt. Umunhum in the South Bay.

There’s a section of the I-580, just before you cross the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, where cyclists can ride along the shoulder of the highway. I’ve always wondered why anyone would brave this busy little stretch of road, so I did a little research and found out that you can pedal to Pt. Molate.
