It’s time to look back at 2023. My life revolves around my devotion to the two-wheeled life and my close ties to the cycling community. And so when I embarked on my first post-pandemic international travels to Mexico City, Japan and Oaxaca — I visited shops, went sightseeing via local bike shares and shuttled up trails so I could careen down mountains.
I also ventured to new spots on the West Coast, including Antelope Valley, Arcata, Blue Lake, Whiskeytown, Idaho, SoCal and even more amazing trails in Tahoe.
And there were tons of other fun bike rides — whether with Taco Nite or Coyote Bomb Squad homies in the Headlands, Sutro, GGP, East Bay hills, Marin and Santa Cruz; volunteering at races; attending events like MADE, Meet Your Maker, Cruiser Classic and Singlespeed CX Worlds.
Our art bike crew, the Cyclographic Cult, had regular meetups, as well as our first group show at Mission Workshop.
I became closer to my rad squad of shreddy women through morning rides and night rides and cozy dinners and group chats.
There were loads of birthday celebrations, including my own at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse. And of course, so many park hangs at the statue.
I forged new friendships along the way and deepened the connections with friends I’ve known for years — some since junior high school.
There was also heartbreak — but there was new love in my life, too. I’ve met an incredible man who fills my life with art and affection and family and adventure and so much joy. (And I helped increase his bike stable from 1 to 3.)
What will 2024 bring? I hope I’ll venture up to Canada, out to Colorado and down to Death Valley, for starters. I want to stop procrastinating on some long-standing projects that I’ve had on the back burner for years. And I will continue to feel so very grateful for all of the wonderful people in my life that give meaning to my existence.
